They'll set it up in another town - Cowboy Classic - Lakeside Recap

Scott R Chilcutt, Stillwater, OK (July 31, 2011)  "The Load-Out" is a song by Jackson Browne from his 1977 album Running on Empty in his tribute to his roadies and fans.

Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They're the first to come and last to leave
Working for that minimum wage
They'll set it up in another town

"The Load-Out" describes the daily practices of a band and its road crew on a concert tour, but on this Sunday is applicable to the Oklahoma and Dallas Am Tour Staff.  Saturday found the staff at the Canton Classic - Twin Lakes for a Dallas event where we were loaded @ 8:00, heading north 325 miles for the Cowboy Classic.

Lakeside Golf Course served as the home of the legendary Oklahoma State University Golf Team for over 40 years, Bob Tway, David Edwards, Willie Wood, Scott Verplank and many other PGA tour players sharpened their games while practicing at Lakeside Golf Course.   Since that time the team has moved west to Karsten Creek as its official facility, but many of the players continue play at Lakeside.

Despite the drought, Lakeside has continued to find water and more importantly use it.  Light roughs, light winds and good greens set up for some excellent scoring as players hit the water jugs and ice towels with a vengeance.  Gary Chrisman from Yukon, OK took home the Tournament Champion, presented by Labor Finders, trophy with a career low round.

RESULTS:
Championship Flight:  Jeff Boyer sneaking in one last tournament before his wife, who survived the heat as a spectator, gives birth to a new member of the family due this week.  Boyer made the best of the event with 5 birdies and 5 bogie's to shoot an even par 70 en route to his 5th win of the year over Steve Lusk from Ponca City, OK and Colby Mowat from Stillwater.

Palmer Flight:  Joseph Hendrix from Yukon, OK picked up his third win of the year but not before he had to win it in a playoff over Jimmy Westfall from Oklahoma City.   Hendrix would have to get up and down from a wayward tee shot but prevailed on the first extra hole.  Mel Yates from Texhoma, TX finished just one shot back to grab the third spot by a stroke over Broken Arrow, OK player Allen Sawvel.

Hogan Flight:  Brook Lister from Tulsa picked up his first local event win by a stroke over Edmond, OK member Tim Mathis.  Lister a winner at the Texas Masters at TPC San Antonio started out a little rocky with two doubles but backed them up with 4 birdies.  Mathis shot two over par on the back to stay ahead of Todd Chapman from Tulsa and Broken Arrow, OK player Zack Whitlock.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Ronald Haddock from Siloam Springs, AR played to even par on the back nine with birdies on the last two holes and needed them to secure his first win over Oklahoma City, OK Art WilesRandy Sullivan also from Oklahoma City, shot two over par on the back to finish one stroke behind Wiles for the show spot.

Sarazen Flight:  Augusta, KS player Ernie DeBruler bounced back after a tough round at the Casper Challenge to pick up his 2nd win on tour by three strokes over Allan Barnett of Cheyenne, OK.  David Price from Pawhuska, keeps knocking on the door with his best score of the year, finishing two strokes back for a third place finish.

Jones Flight:   Gary Chrisman from Yukon hasn't picked up a golf club since his mid July trip to the TPC Sawgrass Open.  Chrisman competing in his 18th tournament of the year came out with a fresh attitude to record a career low round of eight over 78.  Fairview, OK member Kent Montgomery finished 5 strokes clear of third place finisher Scott Bundrick from Checotah.
