Battle Creek Open - Recap

Tis the Season for Ice Towels!

Scott R Chilcutt, Broken Arrow, OK (June 18, 2011) The last time the Am Tour paid a visit to Battle Creek Golf Club in Broken Arrow was on May 30, 2009.  The Tulsa / Battle Creek Event # 7, nine players signed up and Roland Lewis won a combined Championship/Palmer/Hogan flight with an 8 over par, 80.  Jason Connor shot a 79 to win the Sarazen/Jones/Snead flight.

When we took over the Oklahoma Tour in 2010, we vowed to make things different and one of those changes was to mix up the golf courses.  Battle Creek didn't make the cut.  After much of the local courses ran into winter kill in early 2010, Battle Creek stepped up to replace a great deal of the courses turf and we set our eyes back on the Broken Arrow track.  That work didn't disappoint, the course was in great condition.

Player count - times 4;  Flights - times 3; Best Score - minus 9;

Bill McConnell from Norman ran away with the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders award, with a net 61.   Chris Blankenship, Mike Johnson, Joe Bonaparte and Mike Delloro knotted up the runner up position.

Next up, The Oklahoma Tour resumes play on July 9th at the Clary Fields Classic and the Dallas Tour heads to exclusive Las Colinas Country Club for the Las Colinas Championship on Monday, July 11th.   Registration for both events close on July 1.

Shawnee Classic - Recap

Scott R Chilcutt, Shawnee, OK (June 11, 2011) A brief period of thunder, lightning and 14" rain (14" between drops)  would bring the field to a halt, but would not dampen the action.

Back for a 2nd year, Shawnee Country Club, once again welcomed the players to a tough challenge.  The superintendent they hired 14 months ago continues to prove he can turn things around with past year winter kill and previous neglect of the greens the track just keeps getting better.

For the 2nd Oklahoma tournament in a row a traveling Dallas tour member took home the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders.  Ricky Gates from Arlington, TX bested the field in the net contest by two strokes over Roland Lewis and Mike Johnson.

Next up, The Oklahoma Tour resumes play at the Battle Creek Open on June, 18th and the Dallas Tour resumes competition at the Casper Challenge at Bear Creek on June 26th.

Playoffs In The HIll Country - Texas Masters

OKLAHOMA PLAYERS at the Texas Masters

Scott R Chilcutt, San Antonio, TX (June 5, 2011)  The final round of the Am Tour's Texas Masters at TPC San Antonio concluded today on the AT&T Canyons course in dramatic fashion as two Oklahoma tour players capped off an incredible two days of play with playoff victories, while another pair solidified National Championship qualifications.

Hogan Flight:  Brook Lister, a Tulsa, OK resident, bested Dallas Tour Player Tim Williams in a playoff after the two were locked in a dead heat at 167 after two days of play.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Sayre, OK, Robert Lakey won a score card playoff for the 2nd spot, punching his ticket for the Nationals.

Jones Flight:  Yukon, OK resident Gary Chrisman had to go 13 strokes better than his round one 95 to make his final round score worthwhile.  It was.  His 82 got him into a playoff with Terry Eggleston where he emerged on the winning side.

Snead Flight: Overnight leader Kevin Cunningham of Little Elm, TX shot a 95 and fought off red hot Scott Bundrick of Checotah to win the championship.  Cunningham’s total of 189 proved just one better than Bundrick’s 190 whose two-day total was bolstered by an impressive flight-best final round 91.

Next Up - The Dallas Tour resumes competition at the Casper Challenge at Bear Creek on June 26th where the field WILL be limited, be sure to enter early.  Oklahoma Tour resumes play at the Battle Creek Open on June, 18th, DEADLINE is this Friday, June 11th!
