Golf Channel Am Tour Oklahoma: Shawnee Classic

Scott R Chilcutt, Shawnee, OK (June 11, 2011) A brief period of thunder, lightning and 14" rain (14" between drops) would bring the field to a halt, but would not dampen the action.

Back for a 2nd year, Shawnee Country Club, once again welcomed the players to a tough challenge. The superintendent they hired 14 months ago continues to prove he can turn things around with past year winter kill and previous neglect of the greens the track just keeps getting better.

For the 2nd Oklahoma tournament in a row a traveling Dallas tour member took home the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders. Ricky Gates from Arlington, TX bested the field in the net contest by two strokes over Roland Lewis and Mike Johnson.

Next up, The Oklahoma Tour resumes play at the Battle Creek Open on June, 18th and the Dallas Tour resumes competition at the Casper Challenge at Bear Creek on June 26th.

RESULTS:

Palmer Flight: Tulsa's Roland Lewis would grab his 2nd win of the 2011 season shooting a 4 over par 75, 2 clear of Bill McConnell from Norman. McConnell would record 3 birdies to fend off Broken Arrow's Allen Sawvel who would close at 2 over on the back 9 to secure the show position.

Hogan Flight: Jim Crawford of Tahlequah picked up his 2nd win of the season carding a seven over 78 edging out Del City's Travis Klein by one stroke. Klein who underwent an appendectomy 10 days ago had a stellar scorecard going until he crossed the street and played the 14th and 15th in 5 over par. Fellow Tahlequah traveler, Mike Johnson rounded out the top 3 with an 80.

Sarazen Flight: Ricky Gates from Arlington, TX took home his 4th win of the season but only first win since graduating to the Sarazen flight, by five strokes over 3 players tied for 2nd. In the three way scorecard playoff, Alan Barnett of Cheyenne, OK finished with 2nd place prize, Lawton's Jeff Banner received the third place gift card and Jamie Sansom from Frisco, TX would shared the points.

Jones Flight: Burneyville's, Shug Shugart took home his second trophy of the year by three strokes over Burnie Rodgers of Haslet, TX and Van Buren, AR Jay Williams. Rodgers finally prevailed in a scorecard playoff for 2nd place prizing.

Snead Flight: Jerime Parker picked up his 2nd win of the year over Yukon's Rick Henthorn, an apparent runner up finisher after a playoff. Henthorn would later notify the committee of a an incorrect scorecard and was disqualified. Scott Bundrick from Checotah would finish 2nd.
