Chamber Day - Shawnee Fall Classic

Scott R Chilcutt, Shawnee, OK (October 27, 2013)  It was a Chamber of Commerce day for the Oklahoma Tour Opener at Shawnee Country Club on Sunday.  Light to no winds, beautiful skies and weather we all hope for during a round of golf.

Questionable course conditions took Shawnee Country Club off the tour schedule after the Shawnee Classic in June of 2011.  During a recent visit we were pleasantly surprised that the staff had been working on the traps and the greens were in excellent condition, so back on the schedule it went.

Art Wiles of Oklahoma City, picked up his first Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  James Fowler of Checotah, OK started the day with a birdie on the par 4 - 2nd, then added one making the turn at the par 4 - 10th for his first win of the year and fourth since March of 2013.  Sapulpa, OK player Curt Howard moved himself back to the Senior Championship flight, after a successful Senior Palmer campaign. Curt made birdies on the par 5 - 8th, par 5 - 13th and par 4 - 15th to finish in the second spot.

Palmer Flight:  Oklahoma City player Jimmy Westfall, with a lot of rounds on the course, went out in +2 -37, struggled on the back, but held on to a two stroke victory over Dave Kirby of Edmond, OK for his eleventh win on tour.  Kirby stayed away from the big numbers, parring his last two holes to solidify the runner up spot with a hard charging Tulsa, OK resident Roland Lewis rounding out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Art Wiles of Oklahoma City, OK finished the final six holes in one under par, but wasn't able to overcome a one shot deficit on the front to Edmond, OK member Tim Mathis.  Mathis picked up his ninth win on tour with Wiles in the runner up spot, for his fourth runner up finish on tour.  Tams Howard of Sapulpa, OK, playing as a guest finished three strokes back of Wiles with Joe Deere of Catoosa, OK picking up the third place points.

Sarazen Flight:   Doug Watson of Shawnee, OK took the win by two strokes over Hill Country Tour transplant Bill Clark now living in Edmond, OK.  Watson birdied the par 5 - 13th and finished the back nine in +2 for his first win on tour.  Two strokes back of Clark,  Haslet, TX traveler, Burnie Rodgers set the course on fire on the front with four birdies, but came back to the field on the back for the show finish.

Jones Flight:   Crescent, OK resident, Ron Walker was one stroke back making the turn and held steady for his sixth win on tour setting up a points lead going to the holiday break in the Senior Jones Flight.  K.C. Montgomery of Fairview / Edmond, OK finished five strokes back with second time player and tour rookie, Scott Brown of Oklahoma City finishing in the third spot.

Oak Tree Hosts Another Fine Oklahoma Open

Scott R Chilcutt, Edmond, OK (July 22, 2013)   Perfect conditions, with fast greens and low to moderate winds welcomed tour members to the second Oklahoma Open @ Oak Tree on the Golf Channel Am Tour Oklahoma Tour schedule.

Oak Tree Country Club,  recently acquired by Club Corp and it's Pete Dye design East Course is a tough but fair layout where players that keep it out of trouble and can find the correct area of the large greens on the approach can score well.   Dallas Tour Traveler,  Myles Gallemore picked up his first Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving by three strokes over Ernest DeBruler of Wichita, KS.

RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Douglas Duke of Fort Smith, AR stumbled a little early with a double on the par 4 - 5th but followed up with two birdies to pick up his third win on tour and first of the year. Palmer Flight:  Dallas Tour player and defending champions, Sean Fenton of Fort Worth, TX matched local Edmond, OK member Dave Kirby going out, but Kirby took control coming to the club house.  Three birdies on the back, including the signature par 4 -16th gave Kirby his second win on tour.  Two strokes back, Fenton took the runner up spot with Oklahoma City, OK native Jameson Bradford now residing in Plano, TX taking the show position.

Senior Hogan Flight:  With the Airlines holding his clubs hostage in another city,  Dallas Tour Member, Myles Gallemore of Irving, TX didn't think he'd be able to make the Monday call.  But both the Airline and Gallemore came through in a big way. Going out in +3 with a birdie on the par 5 -12th, three birdies on his back nine catapulted Myles to a career low round, his fourth win on tour and second of the season.  Seven strokes back, Michael Hicks of Edmond started out two under par after four winding up in the runner up spot, with Sayre, OK member  Robert Lakey rounding out the top three.

Sarazen Flight:  Another player making the double start Ernest DeBruler of Wichita, KS punched his ticket to the Nationals with his third win on the season.  DeBruler took the day off on Sunday and started the round with birdie on the par 4 - 10th to begin his charge to a seven stroke lead over second place finisher Christian Williamson of Edmond, OK.   Another local from Edmond, Imran Siddiqi shared the third place finish with traveling Odessa, TX resident Joe Luman.

Senior Sarazen Flight:  Vincent Gonzalez of Oklahoma City, OK picked up his first win on tour.  Gonzales, starting the day on #10 went out in plus four on his first nine, struggled early on his back but played his final six holes in plus 2 for the victory.  Jones, OK player Stan Wilson made a solid stand in the second place finish with Auroro, CO member Ambrose (Tony) Solano finishing in third, six strokes back.

Jones Flight:  Arkansas Tour Member Craig Merrill of Roland, AR is making a habit of winning on the road, with five wins on the season, three in the last three attempts and four on the Oklahoma or Dallas Tour.  This one didn't come quite as easy, however as local Edmond, OK tour member Mike Camp would force extra holes with a bogey on the par 4 -5th.  Camp would end up in the runner up spot with Kyle Kuykendall of Yukon, OK finishing third.
