Battle at Patricia Island - Grand Lake Showdown

Five Winners from Four States, Arkansas Leads with Two

Scott R Chilcutt, Edmond, OK (July 13, 2013)  On the banks of Grand Lake o' the Cherokees, Patricia Island Estates and Golf Club, played host to the annual Grand Lake Showdown. Very little wind and somewhat mild temperatures for this time of the year helped make the course very gettable for players traveling from as far as Albuquerque, Houston, ST Louis and Topeka.

James Wofford shot a career low round to pick up the Tournament Champions Trophy, presented by Carlisle's Engraving.

RESULTS:

Palmer Flight:  Allen Huffman of Holiday Island, AR opened the round with a bogey, finished out the front nine at plus two on two birdies and played the back nine in even par to win by two strokes.  It was Huffman's third win on the season to lock him into the National Championship field.  Two strokes back,  ST. Louis tour member Andrew Ganey made it his fifth straight runner up finish on five events on tour. Matt Mcclain of Decatur, AR rounded out the top three.

Hogan Flight:  Traveling Houston Tour member James Wofford of Montgomery, TX, a winner at the 2013 Western Masters at PGA West, ran away from the field with five birdies on the day and four on the back nine.  Seven strokes back, Mike Johnson of Tahlequah, OK started the day with a birdie on the par 4 - 3rd, added two on the par 4 - 10th and par 3 - 11th  for his second runner up title in as many attempts.  Four strokes back of Johnson, Maumelle, AR resident Richard Ainsworth took the final podium finish.

Sarazen Flight:  Frequent visitor to the Oklahoma Tour, Stanley Emerson of Topeka, KS defended his 2012 Grand Lake Showdown Championship for his fourteenth win on tour and second of the year.  Emerson's two birdies coming to the clubhouse proved to be enough to stay two strokes ahead of a pair tied up in second. Ernest DeBruler of Wichita, KS and  Van Buren, AR member Jay Williams shared the second place honors.

Jones Flight:  Owasso, OK player Roger Johnson took the year off in 2012, but is back in a big way with his first win on tour.  Johnson birdied the par 3 -  16th to close out a three stroke advantage over Bobby Deaton of Holiday Island, AR.  Deaton a winner at the Showdown at The Highlands cleared local Jay, OK member Matthew Nowlin by two strokes.

Senior Jones Flight:   Coming off his win at the Championship @ TPC Craig Ranch, Roland, AR member Craig Merrill made it two in a row.  Two strokes back, Dennis Baxter of  Bella Vista, AR, the winner at the Red River Shootout at WinStar Resort, finished second with Fairview, OK member K.C.
