Showdown at Grand Lake - Patricia Island

Scott R. Chilcutt, Grove, OK (July 7, 2012)  Patricia Island Estates and Golf Club on the shores of a weekend vacation hot spot, Grand Lake in Northeastern Oklahoma played host to the final Oklahoma / Arkansas Tour Showdown of the year.

On the tail end of the 4th of July holiday week the weather cooled a bit for the Grand Lake Showdown.  Storms circulated to the Northeast, but were only helpful with the cloud cover and virtually no wind as the course played hard and fast and the scores reflected the conditions.  Jerry Robinson finished one stroke ahead of Bruce Callich for the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders.

RESULTS:

Palmer Flight:  Tulsa, OK longtime member Roland Lewis commanded his 12th win on tour and first of the year.  Lewis went out in one over par with a birdie on the par 4 - 8th hole to maintain a two stroke advantage over second place finisher Travis Klein from Del City, OK.  Broken Arrow, OK player Allen Sawvel, with three birdies on the day, including the final hole to tie up the third spot with Jimmy Westfall from Oklahoma City, OK.

Hogan Flight:  Zack Whitlock from Broken Arrow, OK picked up his third win on tour and second of the year.  Whitlock birdied the 18th hole to finish one stroke clear of Augusta, KS member Ernest DeBruler. St. Louis tour traveler and defending flight champion, Michael Quesenberry from Wentzville, MO knotted up the third spot with Arkansas Tour member Josh Hinojosa from Springdale, AR.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Checotah, OK resident Bruce Callich battled with  James Surber from Edmond, OK for his second win on tour.  The difference was a single birdie after they both matched pars and bogeys.  Four strokes back the pair of Richard Ainsworth from Maumelle, AR and Tim Mathis from Edmond, OK shared the third place honors.

Sarazen Flight:  Jerry Robinson from Rogers, AR recorded a career low round, +6 - 78 for his first win on tour ahead of John Hamilton from Hot Springs Village, AR and Jones, OK player Stan Wilson.  Robinson never got in any real trouble with twelve pars on the day and finished three strokes ahead of the second place finishers.

Jones Flight:  Kansas City Tour player Stanley Emerson from Topeka, KS punched his ticket to the National Championship with his third win on tour.  Emerson started out hot, going two over on the front nine and finished three strokes ahead of Craig Merrill of Roland, AR.  The top Oklahoma Tour pair, Imran Siddiqi from Edmond, OK and Crescent, OK player Ron Walker rounded out the top three.

Snead Flight:  After taking a ten on the par five 13th hole, Rick Henthorn from Yukon, OK bounced back to go two over par the last five holes to win his 5th event of the year, including the Red River Shootout at WinStar Resort  Major.  Just a single stroke back, Bentonville, AR player Sam Reeves secured the second place finish nine strokes ahead of Jonathan Miller from Hartshorne, OK.
