Scott R Chilcutt, Grove, OK (July 6, 2011) Patricia Island Estates and Golf Club, where country music and Heehaw legend Roy Clark keeps his lake home off the shores of Grand Lake in Northeastern Oklahoma.
Grand Lake O' The Cherokees is also known for it's large boats and beautiful homes on the water covering some 1,300 miles of shoreline. Much of the year it can also mean a wind blowing off those waters, but not this weekend. 100+ temperatures would have welcomed something more than a breeze, but the still conditions made for great scoring. The golf course, arguably in the best condition on the Oklahoma Tour to date has been blessed with much of the rain that has missed the Central and Western part of the state. Greens were receptive to shots and probably slower than most players would have preferred, but with the heat, they have to keep them alive.
The Grand Lake Showdown, in it's 2nd year, is the 2nd in as many events billed as an Oklahoma / Arkansas Tour challenge. WINNERS this go round came from The Dallas Tour, Kansas City Tour, St. Louis Tour as well as Arkansas and Oklahoma.
Mesquite, TX player Gabriel Brisco edged Mike Quesenberry playing out of the St. Louis tour, by one stroke to take the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders.
RESULTS:
Palmer Flight: Lance Berland from Salina, KS picked up his first win on tour in an all out of state flight. Fellow Kansas City Tour member Thomas Kass from Overland Park, KS finished two strokes back. Kass had a tough stretch on the 14th and 15th holes but rebounded to finish with pars and stay ahead of Rogers, AR player Brian Smith by a stroke.
Hogan Flight: St. Louis Tour member Mike Quesenberry from Wentzville, MO dropped in when his weekend had him in the area for his wife's high school class reunion in nearby Big Cabin. Quesenberry made the best of this stop picking up his second win in as many weekends playing nearly perfect golf and was two under par going to the 14th hole where he got into trouble and carded a triple. Newly re flighted Broken Arrow, OK player Zack Whitlock took the 2nd spot by two strokes over Tim Mathis from Edmond, OK and Tulsa's Kenroy Smith both tied for third.
Senior Hogan Flight: Just about the time Tahlequah, OK player Mike Johnson had settled into his post round hamburger it was official. Three players had tied at the top with 5 over par 77. Joining Johnson on the first tee, fellow Tahlequah player Jim Crawford and Richard Ainsworth from Maumelle, AR. Both Crawford and Ainsworth had to birdie the final hole to get in a playoff with Johnson who double bogied the 18th. In the end it would only take one playoff hole as Crawford eagled the par five first to bring them back to the air conditioning for his third win of the season.
Sarazen Flight: Picking up his first win in two seasons on the tour, Dallas Tour member Gabriel Brisco from Mesquite, TX shot a career low round, 79 to gap the field by 8 strokes. Russell Ingle from Belle Vista parred the 18th hole for his best finish on tour staying clear of David Price from Pawhuska, OK and Roland, AR Craig Merrill by one stroke.
Jones Flight: Carl Imhof from Rogers, AR snatched his second win of the season by two strokes over a trio of players finishing with 84's. Dennis Baxter from Belle Vista birdied the 12th and 17th holes to shoot a one over par 37 on the back nine, picking up the second place prizes through the scorecard playoff. Blanchard, OK player Jerime Parker and Loyd Welch from McAlester, OK would share T2 points.
Snead Flight: Arkansas Tour player Sam Reeves from Bentonville, AR paced the field with a career low, 86. Rick Henthorn from Yukon, OK hasn't been out of the top three places since a December round in Hawaii, stayed clear of Checotah, OK member Scott Bundrick.
