Scott R Chilcutt, Edmond, OK (April 30, 2011) Rose Creek Golf Club, now also know as Tour 18 @ Rose Creek, previously a multi event site per year, has been off the tour since the summer of 2009. Since that time they've completed a beautiful new 16,000SF clubhouse, making bunker improvements, they've brought on a new course superintendent and the greens are in the best shape they have been in over a year. Early schedule timing and the continued spring maintenance on the fairways made for some challenging lies, but with more impact was the north to northwest winds sweeping over west Edmond.
In the end you would have a hard time complaining about this Saturday, bookended by 60MPH gusts on Friday and 50 degree thunderstorms on Sunday.
Jamie Sansom a traveling, Frisco, TX member playing out of the Dallas tour took home the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders, in a score card playoff over Travis Klein from Del City.
Next up, Cherry Springs in Talequah, a joint Oklahoma / Arkansas event coordinated by Arkansas Tour director Paul Gomez, on Saturday, May 7th. Dallas Tour resumes on May 14th for The Cliffs Challenge at Possum Kingdom and the next area Major on May 21st at the famed Payne Stewart Golf Club in Branson, MO, now only taking waiting list entries.
RESULTS:
Championship Flight: Stillwater native, now residing in Oklahoma City, Jeff Boyer has all but knocked through the winning wall since joining the tour this spring. Jeff has had three 2nd place finishes, including a T2 with the tough 17 player field at The Tibute Open last weekend in The Colony, TX. Boyer shot 3 over on the front and 3 over on the back to stay steady and outlast Curt Howard from Sapulpa and Brandon Henry from Pauls Valley.
Palmer Flight: Oklahoma City's, Hank Darcey a new member on the tour picked up the first win of his AM Tour career over a strong nine player field. Darcey shot a one over par over the final 6 holes to take the lead over Jimmy Westfall also from Oklahoma City finishing the final third of his round in 3 over par and finished two back. Bill McConnell from Norman rounded out the top 3, one stroke back of Westfall.
Hogan Flight: Travis Klein from Del City, went out in even par and came to the club house with five bogie's and a double to finish three strokes clear of Edmond's, Tim Mathis. Klein, in only his second event on the tour, handled the eleven player field, with Tulsa's Todd Chapman taking the show spot. Fourteen year old, first time player, Ethan Smith from Oklahoma City birdied the 8th and 14th holes to stay within 5 strokes of the lead.
Sarazen Flight: Jamie Sansom made the best of his 200+ mile drive up I-35 from his Frisco, TX home taking the top honors by three strokes over Jones resident, Stan Wilson. Sansom, acting as a delivery agent for this weeks trophies from Ron Hardy's Lewisville shop, also took an important 175 points in the Senior Sarazen flight back to the Dallas Tour. Norman's, Terry Saxon even par on the final 6 holes finished T3 in his best finish on the tour with David Price from Pawhuska. Wilson birided the 17th for one of his two skins on the day.
Jones Flight: Burneyville's, Shug Shugart took home his first trophy of the year by two strokes over Loyd Welch from McAlester and Yukons' Gary Chrisman knotted in in the 2nd spot. Chrisman was able to keep his mind only partially on the round as his wife Heidi delivered the couples first daughter, Isabella on Thursday. Isabella will have an extended hospital stay and on behalf of the Oklahoma Tour and players we send our best wishes and prayers to the Chrisman family.
Snead Flight: Mike Camp from Edmond finished his third tournament on the tour with his first victory. Despite a tough finish on the par 4 - 16th, Camp stayed one clear of Yukon's Rick Henthorn and Scott Bundrick from Checotah. Bundricks birdie on the 15th along with Rick's water problems on the 18th left those two tied for 2nd.
