Battle at the Creek - Broken Arrow Open

Scott R Chilcutt, Broken Arrow, OK (June 9, 2012)  Battle Creek Golf Club, on the outskirts of Tulsa,  is owned by the City of Broken Arrow and professionally managed by Greenway Golf Management.  With the exception of the bunkers that will be getting a makeover later in the year, the golf course was in excellent condition for our 2nd trip back for the Broken Arrow Open.

Traveling Arkansas Tour member, Vicki Lynch from Fort Smith won the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders.

RESULTS:

Palmer Flight:  Starting out with a couple of early birdies, Jimmy Westfall from Oklahoma City, OK went to the 16th tee at one over par and looked to have things locked up.  After doubles on the 16th and 17th holes he fell back to the field but still had enough of a lead to pick up his first win on the year over Del City, OK member Travis Klein.  Klein birdied the 15th hole to stay two strokes clear of Chris Blankenship from Stigler, OK rounding out the top three.

Hogan Flight:   Local Broken Arrow, OK tour player Zack Whitlock carded a double bogey on the 18th and opened the door for Owasso, OK member Greg Rader to take it to extra holes. Rader finished strong, one under par over on the back nine, but couldn't finish off Whitlock in the playoff.  Zack picked up his first win of the year on the first playoff hole with Jason Conner from Piedmont, OK one stroke back finishing in the third spot.

Sarazen Flight:  Stan Wilson from Jones, OK and Blanchard, OK member Jerime Parker took it to extra holes for the second playoff of the day.  Wilson finished it off on the second hole of the playoff for his second win on the year. Parker completed his 7th of 8 top four spots on the year with recently promoted member Loyd Welch from McAlester, OK rounding out the top three.

Edmond - Take Two / Coffee Creek Classic

Scott R Chilcutt, Edmond, OK (June 3, 2012)  Two weeks after a "Lightning Out" at the Edmond Summer Classic at Kickingbird the Oklahoma Tour resumed play at Coffee Creek Golf Course just north of Edmond.

Coffee Creek previously a stop on the tour was off the schedule in 2011 when a makeover was planned on the greens.  During the early fall of 2011 all the putting surfaces were redone with Champion Ultra-Dwarf turf which is much more resilient to the brutal summer heat.

Overnight storms, kept the players on the cart paths and helped to make the course play long, but generally wasn't a factor.  Clayton Badger from Drumright, OK won the Tournament Champion Trophy, presented by Labor Finders in a scorecard playoff over Brenton Fillers from Brownwood, TX.
RESULTS:

Championship Flight:  Newcomer Philip Hawkins from Edmond, OK picked up his first win in as many tries. Hawkins, out with a birdie on the first hole was tied with Jeff Case from Norman, OK going to the 9th tee box, but Case ran into problems with a hazard and settled for his 2nd, second place finish in two events.  Four strokes back Jordan Rollins from Keller, TX rounded out the top three.

Palmer Flight:   Curtis O'Rorke from Shawnee, OK and Oklahoma City player Darren Montgomery locked it up with Clayton Badger from Drumright, OK after Badger carded a par on the 18th hole to force a three way playoff.  On the first extra hole O'Rorke finished off the pair with a par to take his second win on the year.

Hogan Flight:  Traveling Dallas Tour member Brenton Fillers from Brownwood, TX outlasted Norman, OK player Mitch Day for his fifth win on the year.  Even through the 14th hole, Fillers would make a double to go down two, but finished bogey, par, bogey to win by four strokes. Jeffrey Banner from Lawton, OK rounded out the top three, one stroke back of Day.

Senior Hogan Flight:  Local Edmond, OK player Tim Mathis grabbed his third win on the year and qualification to the National Championship. One stroke back, Mike Johnson from Tahlequah, OK and Rod Haddock from Siloam Springs, AR shared a second place finish.  Johnson picked up his fourth runner up finish in five tries on the year.

Sarazen Flight: After a trio of third place finishes, David Price from Pawhuska, OK picked up his second win on the season six strokes clear of Edmond, OK member Tom CollinsworthStan Wilson from Jones, OK landed in the show position for the fourth time on the year.

Jones Flight:  Imran Siddiqi from Edmond, OK took home the trophy for the first time on tour three strokes clear of Ron Walker from Crescent, OK. Yukon, OK member Gary Chrisman finished in the third spot in only his second event of the year.
